Bots for Life

Tech High School received grants from the Local Education & Activities Foundation (LEAF) totaling $5,000 to construct the Mars Simulation Lab.  The purpose of the lab is for robotic students to experience simulated Martian robotic missions similar to the NASA Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) Mars Exploration Rovers.  Students designed and constructed the lab in 2015.  Over 200 students in multiple robotic classes have designed VEX robots to complete multiple missions.  The missions include mapping, soil collection, rock collection and identification, navigation, and solar panel inspection.  Students control the robots with VEX EDR systems in a mission control from outside the simulation lab.  Students view what the robot is able to see with GoPro cameras attached to the robots and iPads in mission control.
